Terms of Use
Last updated 12 September 2026
These are the terms for using Accentuate: the website at accentuatevoices.com, the practice app at app.accentuatevoices.com, and the iPhone and Android apps. Create an account or use the app and you're agreeing to them. If you don't, please don't use Accentuate.
The short version. The paid plan is $5.99 a month, billed monthly, and it renews automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time from inside the app (or from your Apple ID settings if you subscribed through the App Store, or Google Play if you subscribed there) and you keep access through the end of what you already paid for. We don't sell your recordings or your data; the Privacy Policy covers that.
Your account
You need an account, and you need to be at least 13 to make one. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us right away if you think someone else has gotten into your account. You're responsible for what happens on it.
Delete your account any time from Profile → Account settings → Delete account, in any of the apps or on the web (how). We can suspend or close one that's abusive toward our support team or that's trying to get around the daily practice limit or the subscription check.
Subscriptions and billing
There's one paid plan, Accentuate Pro, currently $5.99 USD a month. It renews itself for another month at the same price when the current one ends, until you cancel. Whatever price you're actually shown at checkout is the one that counts. If we ever change the price, this page can take a day or two to catch up.
| Where you subscribed | Who bills you | How to cancel |
|---|---|---|
| Web (accentuatevoices.com / app.accentuatevoices.com) | Stripe, on our behalf. New web subscriptions currently start with a 30-day free trial. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing. | Profile → Account settings → Manage subscription |
| iPhone app, via the App Store | Apple, under Apple's own subscription terms. No free trial is offered on this path; purchasing charges you immediately. | Settings app → your Apple Account → Subscriptions. Apple handles this billing relationship directly, so we can't cancel or refund it for you. |
| Android app, via Google Play | Google, under Google Play's own subscription terms. No free trial is offered on this path; purchasing charges you immediately. | Google Play app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Google handles this billing relationship directly, so we can't cancel or refund it for you. |
Canceling stops the next renewal, not the one you're already in. You keep paid access through the end of what you paid for. Something wrong with a web subscription? Write to us and we'll sort out a refund. For an App Store subscription, that's Apple's call: reportaproblem.apple.com. For a Google Play subscription, request a refund through Google Play.
If we ever change the price, we'll tell you before it hits your account. Staying subscribed after that means you're fine with the new price.
Acceptable use
- Use Accentuate to practice your own pronunciation — that's what it's for.
- Don't try to break or overload the scoring service, reverse-engineer it, or use it to build something that competes with us.
- Don't pass one account around a group to dodge the subscription or the daily practice limit.
- Don't bring in text (including through Add a Script) that you don't have the right to use, or that's abusive, illegal, or steps on someone else's rights.
Content
Ours. The lessons, reference audio, word lists, and the app itself belong to Accentuate. You get a personal license to use them for your own practice — not to redistribute them, resell them, or pull them out for something else you're building.
Yours. Your recordings stay yours. Per the Privacy Policy, we only hold onto one long enough to score it, then it's gone — no training, no keeping it around, nothing beyond handing you back a score. Bringing in your own text through Add a Script? You're the one who needs the right to use it.
Warranty and liability
Accentuate is a practice tool, not a certified judge of your accent, and we can't promise a particular result from using it. Where your local law allows it, the app comes "as is," with no warranties attached, and we're not on the hook for indirect or consequential damages from using it. If it ever comes to a claim, the most we owe you is whatever you paid us in the twelve months before it came up.
If your local law doesn't let us limit liability that far, that part backs off. The rest of these terms still stand.
Ending these terms
Stop using Accentuate and delete your account whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account for a real violation of these terms, and if we ever shut the whole thing down, we'll try to give you some notice first.
Changes to these terms
These terms change when the product or the law does. The date up top is the latest revision, and we'll flag anything material inside the app. Keep using Accentuate after a change and you've accepted it.
App Store additional terms
Got Accentuate through Apple's App Store? This section also applies, and wins out over anything above it that it conflicts with. Apple asks every developer to include terms along these lines:
- This agreement is between you and Accentuate Voices, not Apple — Apple is not a party to it and owes you no maintenance or support for the app.
- Your license to use the app is a non-transferable one, for an Apple-branded device you own or control, under the App Store's Usage Rules.
- If the app fails to meet a warranty that applies to it, tell Apple and Apple will refund what you paid Apple for it. Past that refund, Apple owes you nothing further; anything else stemming from a warranty failure is on us, not Apple.
- Apple isn't the one who has to deal with claims about the app — product liability, legal or regulatory non-conformance, consumer protection, whatever form it takes.
- Same goes for intellectual-property claims: Apple has no duty to investigate, defend, settle, or pay out on a claim that the app infringes someone's rights.
- You're confirming you're not in a country the U.S. embargoes or considers a terrorist-supporting state, and that you're not on any U.S. list of barred or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement and can enforce it against you directly, the same as we can.
Governing law
U.S. law governs these terms, conflict-of-laws rules aside — except where the mandatory law of the country you live in says otherwise.
